Hey guys! In this post, I’ll be sharing with you the right combination of food to get the desired body and desired health condition.
First off, what is diet? It is a controlled regimen of food and drink, as to gain or lose weight or otherwise influence health. It is the foods and beverages a person consumes.

Without much ado, I’ll go straight into the foods that one should eat and those not to eat.
All food groups are essential, but should be taken in the right quantity.
– Carbohydrates (carbs). Sources are: rice, bread, potatoes, etc. These food group contains starch and also provide energy for the body.
– Proteins. Sources are: egg, beans, milk, cheese, soy beans, meat, fish, yoghurt etc. Now, these are the body building foods. They help build the muscles, alongside good exercise.
– Fat. Sources are: olive oil, fatty fish, whole eggs, avocadoes, etc. Fats have the highest quantity of calories. Actually, calories intake should be pretty much regulated. Excess calories is not good for the body. We will have better understanding of calories later on.

– Minerals. Sources are: meat, cereals, diary foods, fruits and vegetables etc. Minerals essential for health include: calcium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, iron, zinc, chromium, chloride, magnesium, iodine, copper, molybdenum, fluoride, manganese and selenium. They help in many areas including bone development, transmitting nerve impulses, good heartbeats also.
– Vitamins. Main sources of Vitamins are fruits and vegetables. Also, beans and legumes, low fat Proteins and so on. There are vitamins A, C, D, E, K, B1(thiamine), B2(riboflavin), B3(niacin), B5(pantothenic acid), B6, B7(Biotin), B9(folate), B12 (cyanocobalamin). They help to build the immune system, heal wounds, repair cellular damages and so on. We shall discuss Vitamins further later on.
– Water. Sources include: Natural water, beverages, fruits and vegetables e.g. cucumber, watermelon, apples, broccoli, oranges, spinach etc. Helps to regulate body temperature, aids digestion, lubricate joints etc.
Also we have dietary fibres. Sources are cereals, fruits, vegetables, beans, potatoes with skin and so on.
So, you’d notice that there are many foods that contains more that one nutrients.
All these foods are good and will work well only when taken in the right proportion.
I found a very good balanced diet meal for the whole week in one of my old textbooks which I’d like to share.

Finally, I’d like to share with you some harmful foods. They are dangerous to the health, especially when excessively taken.
Sugary foods and drinks, red meat, processed foods, alcohol, fried chicken, meats from the grill, like ‘suya’, roadside foods and many others. Consumption of these foods, especially in excess will expose one to risks of heart diseases, cancer, diabetes, obesity, early death and other health-related problems
On this note, I’ll say watch what you eat and you’ll have higher chances of living long.
